TERRY FOX RUN DAY!
During the Terry Fox Run we had some friends that were working VERY hard. We were the first class to start and we made it all the way around before it was time for the last class! We ran fast and needed lots of breaks. Some of our friends ran THE WHOLE TIME! Others were pretty exhausted after a couple laps. It was a chilly day and we loved every second of it! :)After the excitement of the Terry Fox Run we came inside and had morning meeting. During our morning meeting our new friend lead us through the morning message. We also talked ALL about MEXICO! We learned lots of different things. We learned about the food that Mexican People eat, the clothing that they wear, the capital city and the language they speak. We also talked about Maracas! One of our friends brought in lots of pictures of different things relating to Mexico and some of our friends brought in some yummy Mexican food. We also learned that Ms. Gray LOVES Mexican food! She taught us how to say hello friends (Hola Amigos!) and goodbye friends (Adios Amigos!) and Have a good night! -- (Buenos Noches!) We think that we want to make our own Maracas to show the school for International Day... Ms. Gray is going to get the supplies over the weekend! :)
During our Inquiry into Language Arts we practiced the sound for the letter Nn. We learned the song for Nn and practiced making the sound as we pretended to be airplanes. After this we practiced writing the letter Nn.
During our Math time we practiced estimating groups of numbers, we practiced matching the number to the word, and we completed pages in our math book. We are going to do a fun activity tomorrow with estimating. Lots of friends like to estimate LARGE numbers when we only have about 5. We are practicing using the language "ABOUT ____"... Also, knowing the numbers by the spelling of the numbers. If you want to quiz the students on the spelling of the numbers... or help them sound them out at home that would be helpful for their Unit 1 assessment! :)
During our Unit of Inquiry we were reviewing the parts and needs of a flower. Once we were done reviewing we talked about all of the tools you would need to start your garden and what could help your garden grow. We talked about shovels, trowels, rakes, etc. While the students were completing their booklets, Ms. Gray called them over to trace their hand for an art project that we are going to do as a class tomorrow. While tracing their hand on red paper... they shared "That is not red, Ms. Gray.... that's like prosciutto red...." --- Someone call Crayola... we have a new name for a color!
We had a fun-filled day of learning about Flowers, practicing/reviewing our letters & sounds and doing our math work. :)
